GUARAJUBA BEACH AND THE COCONUT COAST REGION.
Coconut Coast is a 125 mile stretch of sandy beaches lined with coconut trees, sand dunes, rivers, lakes and mangrove marshes. It is located just a few miles North of Salvador, the capital of the state of Bahia, Brazil. Its golden-sand beaches protected by reefs, and warm, pure ocean waters offer an escape to paradise. Environmental preservation areas assure the controlled and balanced urban development of the region. The Coconut Coast is crossed by the "Green Line Highway", which travels parallel to the coast for 87 miles, set back approximately three miles from the shoreline to preserve the natural environment.
Some of the region's attractions include: Costa do Sauípe Resort and Hotel Complex (the largest in Brazil), The Sand Dune Park in Mangue Seco, Praia do Forte Eco-Resort, Garcia D 'Ávila Castle National Historical Park (built in 1551, it represents the only medieval-style construction in the American continent) Sapiranga Nature Preserve, The Tamar Project (marine turtle sanctuary), Guarajuba Beach, Itacimirim Beach, Imbassaí Beach, among many others.
Guarajuba Beach is one of the most beautiful and tranquil places in the Coconut Coast. Located approximately 30 minutes North of Salvador's international airport. Guarajuba has only one public street, which links the main road to the beach. Although Guarajuba is a public beach, virtually all homes are located in three private gated communities and used as vacation homes. Guarajuba is sorrouded by a natural reff making it ideal for bathing and relaxing. However, surfing is practiced a short walk going North (Itacimirim) and South (Esmeralda).
The local infrastructure includes:
Salvador's International Airport.
Green Line Ecological Highway, providing paved access to locations along the seashore.
Regularly scheduled bus service to seaside locations.
Electrical energy, potable water, sewerage systems, and fixed and mobile telecommunications services.
Guarajuba offers restaurants, shopping, grocery store, pharmacy, ATM service, police station and beach quiosks that sell tradicional food and beverages.
